My June achievements, finally picking up a book, and new life lessons

As Youth Month comes to a close, I wanted to share some things with all you lovely readers before heading into the… seventh month of the year! I know this is getting old – but where is the time going!?

My interview with Tasneem Daniels

Nervous would be an understatement! Tasneem and I have become such amazing online buddies, and being interviewed by her was such a privilege and honour!

Tasneem is an incredibly talented writer (author of the play Miela’s Box) and fellow radio head ๐Ÿ’™ please check out her other works on LitNet and in Die Burger.

Please enjoy my first ever written interview with Tasneem right here. Your support is truly appreciated ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’

Everyone is celebrating a birthday ๐ŸŽ‚

Or at least it seems that way, as many of my family members and colleagues have enjoyed birthdays this month.

At the beginning of the month, it is my sister, and then in the middle, is my mother-in-law. But in the month before it’s my birthday and in July, my brother-in-law celebrates.

Why were so many people in my life born during these months…hmmm…๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜…

My birthday dinner at Khao Hom in Claremont.

I finally picked up a new book!

Back in school, I was an avid reader. I loved reading, buying, and collecting books. I even had a really cute book shelf in my room!ย

But I lost my reading mojo along the way, and I think because I didn’t have people to share my book joy with, I just stopped reading books.

UNTIILL… I picked up some riveting works by Deon Meyer. His crime-thriller books sparked a new excitement, and I haven’t stopped since.

I tried my hand at The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. But yoh! I found it so boring and really hard to find interesting ๐Ÿ˜•

I’ve since turned to the BookTok girlies for inspiration, and I got my hands on the first book of the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. I’ve been enjoying this genre a lot more – a dystopian future where tech has corrupted and eroded the natural world – but I find it to be a little ‘young’ for me. I think if I read this about 10 years ago, I probably would have been a mega fan!

What books are you reading atm? Leave your recs down below ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’–

Things I’ve been telling myself

There’s been a lot on my mind lately.

These are some things I’ve learned from recent conflicts and difficulties. If you have any words of encouragement or strength that help you get through tough times, feel free to share with me โœจ๏ธ

  • People appreciate it if you are honest with how you feel. Don’t be afraid.
  • You were put in a role because you ARE capable.
  • Make time to move your body.
  • It’s not always that serious.

Thank you for reading. May your July be a wonderful and blessed one. Stay safe. And stay hydrated ๐Ÿšฐ
