Happy 7th birthday, GirlOnTheBus! πŸŽ‰

When I first started GirlOnTheBus, I was a journalist in the making.

At the time, I was working at a community magazine as a writer and sub-editor, and volunteering at my local masjied, writing and sourcing content for its monthly newsletter. These experiences reinforced my love for talking with people, seeking knowledge and sharing that information.

It excited me – it still excites me to this day – that’s why I’ve stayed in jobs in radio.

With a bit of push from my media studies lecturer, I began GirlOnTheBus, 7 years ago.

What started as a place for me to just rant and share reviews (I mean, I still kinda do this πŸ˜…) became a hub for people all over the word to share. Stories, poems, reviews, advice and education pieces, discoveries and RECIPES, all nestled into this little blog.

And it has not come from my efforts alone. Almighty Allah has guided me through these years towards people who also believed in my vision, and gave up their time and efforts, for free, to help make it a reality. A guest post, being an editor, or contributing on a weekly basis, the writers on this blog are extremely talented and hold a very sacred space in my heart. I ask that Allah bless their hands and minds. May it touch the hearts of future peoples 🧑.

Not forgetting – THERE’S YOU, DEAR READER! Thank you for your love and support through these years. Whether it was through subscribing, sharing or clicking on a link, I appreciate it all. It is because of you that I keep on typing and sharing my voice. I love you so much πŸ₯°

Let’s grow together! Here’s to a wonderful 2026, and much success in the years to come, In Shaa Allah/God Willing 🌹
